Gia Carangi and Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie became Gia for her role in the HBO movie “Gia”.

When asked, on Bravo TV’s The Actor’s Guild, whether she turned down the offer to play Gia’s role, Angelina replied,

“Yes. I said no quite a few times because [Gia] felt too close to me. A lot of things I didn’t want to confront…and I think that…desire to want to feel a real sense of self, other than the very superficial things in the world. And the need to be understood and loved for who we are.”
